Introduction

Creating has always meant a lot to me but when I was little I wanted to become a “super star.” I didn’t know exactly how I would become one or what one really was so I would forget about it and go play. During this age I was given a little sewing machine. I remember trying to learn how to make it work and the excitement of it making a few stitches. One of the things I made was a little bag that I have kept. This is the first memory I have of creating and even though the stitches and handle were uneven, it gave me a sense of accomplishment. As I got older, I often wanted to try new things that allowed me to create. I have worked on cooking/baking, piano, knitting and other crafts. Knitting is something I’ve always enjoyed and when I was first learning the basic techniques, I would often make mistakes. I would accidently drop a stitch that would cause my knitted piece to unravel. I learned quickly to have patience and to use a hook to find the loop to fix the unraveled stitch. Creating is something that requires a lot of patience because of the unavoidable mistakes that will happen when learning and experimenting. It is part of the growing process and gives experience. Even though it is hard when I make a mistake, I try to focus on how I get better from recognizing it plus trying to fix and avoid it next time. I don’t like being discouraged so that means I need to quickly learn how to improve my skills to help decrease frustration. I learned that by creating I’m fulfilling my childhood dream of becoming a “super star” because I keep trying even when I mess up.
